"We spoke nearly daily and I had seen him just the week before (we lived on
different islands). His immediate family was gone for many years, and my family
was his family. The five Sales sisters called him the brother we never had.
"My nephew and
his family joined us and our Hawaii friends for a celebration on the Big Island
where we released a big bunch of balloons to fly his ashes over the islands he
loved so much, and off he flew, straight to Maui. We also read and included
messages from friends all around the country. We made sure that a few of his
ashes also found his way to his parents’ graves in Lakewood and into our garden
here at my home. He was a fixture in my life since junior high and I miss him."
She send along a photo of the two of them taken in 1997.
